About Smith + Trade
It Started with the makers
Smith + Trade Mercantile was created with a simple purpose: to bring together the makers, artisans, craftsmen, and merchants who pour their passion and skill into the products they create.
As a lead designer for HGTV and DIY television, founder Kelli Kaufer spent 15 years designing more than 250 remodels. Creating spaces that felt original often meant looking beyond mass- produced decor and turning to craftspeople who were making something different.
And Kelli began to notice something. These makers were incredibly talented, but finding a place to showcase their work, tell their story, and build a following wasn't easy.
Smith + Trade grew from the desire to change that.
EST. 2019
A Place for Makers to Be Seen.
In 2019, Kelli and Paul opened the first Smith + Trade Mercantile.
The idea was simple: create a beautiful brick and mortar space where independent makers could grow their businesses, share their work, and most importantly share the story behind it.
Smith + Trade wouldn't simply stock handmade products, we would introduce you to the people who made them.
